Being A Model Mover

3 Tips For Keeping Your Storage Unit Organized

If you are renting a storage unit, it can be very tempting to just dump your unneeded belongings and deal with them on a different day. However, keeping a storage unit organized can be key to maximizing your square footage and finding things when you need it. Here are a few tips for organizing your storage unit.

Store Large Furniture In The Back

One thing that you will not be using frequently is large furniture. This could include desks, beds, appliances, or anything that you don't see yourself needing again for quite some time. Put these items along the back of the storage unit so that they are completely out of the way. Chances are they won't be removed for a long time, and you'll need to empty the storage unit out to get to them.

Use Racks On Wheels

Nobody likes to move boxes around when you need to get a specific item. That's why you'll want to make moving things a bit easier to navigate your belongings. Buy storage racks with wheels on them that will hold all of your boxes. This allows you to easily move racks out of the storage unit to get to the racks behind them. Not only does it make it simple to move boxes, but the boxes will stay in the same position when the racks get wheeled back in place, rather than haphazardly restacking boxes.

Create An Inventory

Having plenty of boxes is not going to help if there is no organization to them. It helps to create an inventory of what is in your boxes, and then clearly label all of the boxes so that they are easy to identify. Start by putting numbers on each box, and try to keep them close to being in numerical order. Then all you need to do is write down on a piece of paper a simple list of what is inside each numbered box.

For example, you may have a box that says Christmas decorations. You don't have to list each thing inside of it, just have a general idea. Then you can easily spot the box based on the number and take it home when it's time to start decorating.

With these three things in mind, you'll be well on your way to keeping your storage unit organized for years to come. Reach out to a storage unit facility for more information.
